MMI Names Bill Crager as 2015 Pioneer for Contributions to the Evolution and Growth of Advisory Solutions

Washington, DC, March 11, 2015 – The Money Management Institute (MMI), the national association representing the $4 trillion managed investment solutions and wealth management industry, announced today that it will honor Bill Crager, President of Envestnet, as its 2015 Advisory Solutions Pioneer. Mr. Crager, who has been an innovative leader in a firm that has helped change the structure of the managed solutions industry by opening up a host of opportunities for independent financial advisors, will receive the Pioneer Award at the Gateway to Leadership Industry Recognition Dinner on April 22nd at the MMI Annual Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Pioneer Award, first awarded in 1998, is given annually to an individual or individuals who embody MMI’s mission to serve as an advocate and catalyst for the growth of the managed investment solutions and wealth management industry.

“As in the past, this award is bestowed on an industry leader who exemplifies the pioneer spirit,” said Joseph Schultz, MMI Chairman and Senior Vice President, Head of Intermediary Sales at American Century Investments. “This year we honor Bill Crager, who with his colleagues has literally transformed the industry in important respects by having the vision to provide independent broker-dealers and registered investment advisors with a comprehensive web-based wealth management platform – from research and due diligence on through investment selection and performance reporting – that gives more than 36,000 independent advisors access to the same tools as advisors at the largest firms.”

Mr. Crager, who joins a prestigious list of 38 previous Pioneer Award winners, said, “I am honored by this award as it recognizes our firm’s commitment to providing capabilities and tools that allow a very broad range of advisors to better serve their clients and help them reach their financial goals.”

“In addition to their accomplishments at Envestnet, Bill and his colleagues were also pioneers in their support of MMI at its earliest stages,” said Christopher L. Davis, MMI President. “In MMI’s formative years, Bill recognized that this organization was headed in the right direction to represent our industry, and he and his firm sponsored MMI's initial series of regional meetings in Chicago, San Francisco and Boston, meetings in which MMI first presented itself to manager and sponsor firms and which proved to be critically important to our association’s growth.”

About Bill Crager
Mr. Crager, is the President of Envestnet which launched in 1999. Bill has led the firm’s platform, product and marketing strategy as well as the company’s relationship engagements. Along with Envestnet Chairman and CEO Jud Bergman, he has been a driving force behind a firm that has in just 16 years become the leading managed solutions service provider in terms of total platform assets. He was among the first at Envestnet – and perhaps in the entire managed solutions industry – to think more globally about how to streamline an independent advisor’s practice by putting a broad range of fee-based products side by side in an easily accessed open-architecture portal. Before joining Envestnet, Bill served as a Managing Director at Rittenhouse Financial Services. There he developed a widely recognized initiative that integrated value-added investor communications with a technology-driven client service platform. Bill is a graduate of Fairfield University where he dual majored in Economics and English; he currently serves on Fairfield University’s Board of Trustees. Bill and his wife Kathy have four children and live in suburban Philadelphia.
